Palliative Care

End of life care is also known as palliative care. A live-in carer will give you the time to spend with your loved one whilst they take care of the daily essentials at this most difficult time.

Are you thinking about end-of-life care?

End-of-life care towards a peaceful and comfortable passing, preferably at home, is seen as one of the most important care pathways. Not least, it can be a most emotional time for families and friends.

We appreciate palliative care services are often required with just a few days notice. Because of this, we promise to act promptly. We can assess care needs, present a selection of care workers and then place your chosen care workers in the home within as little as as 2-3 days after an in-home care assessment.

Palliative care services

Our personalised care plans incorporate prescribed pain relief, medication for distressing symptoms and regular reviews – and our carers provide compassion during continuity of care, to help with peace of mind for clients, family and friends, working to consider everyone’s wishes.

Our live-in care workers allow you to spend precious time with your loved one while they work in the background to manage daily support tasks.

Caring isn’t just our profession, it’s our passion. We are here to make life as easy as possible for you at the most difficult of times.

End of Life, Palliative Care FAQ's

What is the purpose of palliative care?

Palliative care is a multidisciplinary healthcare approach aimed at enhancing the quality of life for individuals with life-limiting illnesses. Its purpose is to provide relief from physical symptoms, psychological distress, social challenges, and spiritual concerns while ensuring patients are treated with dignity and respect.

How does palliative care differ from end-of-life care?

While palliative care may be introduced at any stage of a serious illness, end-of-life care specifically supports patients in the final phase of life, when curative treatment is no longer appropriate. Both approaches prioritise comfort, symptom management, and holistic support, but end-of-life care is focused entirely on ensuring dignity and peace during the last weeks or days.

Which patients are most appropriate for palliative care?

Palliative care is suitable for patients with advanced illnesses such as cancer, chronic heart or lung disease, kidney failure, dementia, and progressive neurological conditions. It is recommended for anyone experiencing a decline in health where the focus of care shifts towards comfort, support, and maintaining quality of life.

What types of support are included in palliative and end-of-life care?

Support typically includes:

  • Comprehensive pain and symptom management

  • Assistance with personal and practical care needs

  • Emotional and psychological support for patients and families

  • Guidance in making care decisions and advanced care planning

  • Spiritual and cultural support, tailored to individual beliefs

  • Respite care for family caregivers

Are cultural and spiritual needs respected in care plans?

Yes. Care is person-centred and tailored to individual beliefs, cultural backgrounds, and religious practices. Spiritual care is often provided in collaboration with chaplains, faith leaders, or cultural representatives as requested by the patient or family.

Does accepting palliative care mean giving up treatment?

No. Palliative care may be provided alongside curative or life-prolonging treatments. It becomes exclusive end-of-life care when medical interventions are no longer beneficial and the focus shifts entirely to comfort and dignity.

How are families supported during end-of-life care?

Families are an integral part of the care process. They receive counselling, practical guidance, and respite support to reduce caregiver burden. Professional teams also provide bereavement support following the loss of a loved one.

Where can palliative and end-of-life care be delivered?

Care may be delivered in the patient’s own home, in residential or nursing care facilities, hospices, or hospital settings. The choice depends on patient preference, medical requirements, and the level of support available in each setting.

How is dignity preserved in end-of-life care?

Dignity is upheld through respect for personal wishes, sensitive communication, effective pain and symptom management, and ensuring patients are cared for in a manner that protects their privacy, values, and individuality.
