Full Job Description

Overview:

To provide person-centred, trauma-informed support to adults with autism, ADHD, and emotional or behavioural needs. The role focuses on delivering consistent and compassionate care that promotes independence, safety, and wellbeing in line with individual support plans.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Direct Support & Daily Living
    • Deliver 1:1 support as required.
    • Assist with personal care, meal preparation, cleaning, and shopping.
    • Encourage healthy choices, routines, and participation in daily life.

  1. Emotional & Behavioural Support
    • Apply Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and trauma-informed strategies.
    • Observe, record, and report changes in mood or behaviour.
    • Use calm, consistent approaches to prevent or de-escalate incidents.

  1. Community & Social Engagement
    • Accompany individuals to college, appointments, and leisure activities.
    • Promote inclusion, communication, and confidence in the community.

  1. Safeguarding & Risk Management
    • Follow individual risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
    • Record incidents accurately and report concerns immediately.
    • Uphold CQC, Health & Safety, and GDPR standards.

  1. Teamwork & Professional Practice
    • Communicate effectively with managers, clinicians, and families.
    • Attend reflective practice and team meetings.
    • Maintain accurate notes and uphold organisational values.

Person Specification

Essential
  • Experience supporting people with autism, ADHD, or complex mental-health needs.
  • Understanding of PBS and trauma-informed care.
  • Strong communication and observation skills.
  • Emotionally resilient and reliable under pressure.
  • Right to work in the UK; Enhanced Adult DBS required.

Desirable
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care (or working towards).
  • Training in Safeguarding, First Aid, or PMVA/MAPA.
  • Prior experience in supported living or residential settings.

Additional Requirements
  • Female Support Worker required due to the specific needs and preferences of the individual supported (Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9).
  • Ideal for a young adult able to build age-appropriate rapport, demonstrating empathy and maturity.
  • Must be fluent in spoken and written English for effective communication and documentation.
  • Applicants must have the right to work in the UK – we do not offer visa sponsorship.
