About the Role
We are seeking dedicated, experienced, and trauma-informed Female Support Workers to join our specialist team supporting clients with Paranoid Schizophrenia, mild learning disability, and diabetes. Client may require 24/7 2:1 support in a supported living setting due to risks related to self-neglect, absconding, and fluctuating mental health.
This is a highly specialised role, ideal for someone passionate about complex mental health care, safeguarding, and promoting independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 2:1 personalised care and emotional support during day and night shifts.
- Implement positive behaviour support strategies and follow a behaviour protocol plan.
- Administer PRN medication in line with prescribed guidelines (training provided).
Support with daily routines including:
- Personal care and hygiene (including prompting and supervision)
- Meal planning and food shopping (managing diabetic-friendly choices)
- Accessing community (e.g. walks, gym, cinema, appointments)
- Keeping environment safe (preventing fire risks, managing toileting issues)
- Build therapeutic relationships and communicate effectively, even during incidents of distress.
- Maintain accurate daily records, incident logs, and contribute to MDT meetings.
- De-escalate challenging behaviours with compassion and professionalism.
Client Experiences:
- Hallucinations, paranoia, and heightened anxiety, especially in unfamiliar environments.
- Refusal to return home, sometimes staying out for extended periods.
- Incontinence and hygiene refusal when unwell.
- Fire risk behaviours (e.g., smoking indoors, hiding lighters).
- Vulnerability to exploitation and financial abuse.
Support is delivered in partnership with her MDT: psychiatrist, CPN, local authority, and supported living provider.
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Experience in mental health, forensic or complex needs support.
- Knowledge of schizophrenia, diabetes management, and positive behaviour support (PBS).
- Strong de-escalation skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent communication and professional boundary-setting.
- Familiarity with PRN protocols and safeguarding frameworks.
- Full right to work in the UK and a valid enhanced DBS (or willing to obtain).
Preferred :
- NVQ Level 3 Health & Social Care (or working toward)
- PMVA/MAPA/Team Teach training
- Experience with Section 117 aftercare or Community DoLS
